Since November 2021, vehicles in 48 mountain departments must be equipped with winter tires or chains from November 1 to March 31.
What tires are accepted?
Winter tires with M+S marking and 3PMSF symbol (snowflake), 4-season 3PMSF tires, metal chains or snow socks.
What's the fine without equipment?
€135 fine and possible vehicle immobilization until compliance.
Are all-season tires sufficient?
Yes, provided they have the 3PMSF marking (snowflake symbol). The M+S marking alone will no longer be sufficient from November 2024.
How to recognize a winter tire?
